British Designers and makers of sustainable contemporary modern furniture and products |
Sum Of All Parts started, like many businesses, from the kitchen table. We have since grown and now occupy a workshop in the heart of Cornwall, England.
Founded by Henry Tidd who has a deep love for design and especially furniture. Here is a little more about Henry: "I have always loved furniture and even designed a bed for my parents when I was about 10 years old! It was never built but I still remember drawing it and getting a lot of satisfaction from seeing my ideas come to life on paper." "Art was always my strongest and favourite lesson at school, and despite not being the very best I just loved drawing and messing about with anything creative. As I got older I got more into sculpture, design and technology and especially loved technical draughtsmanship." "After School I went onto study Business at University in Bristol and it took until I was 30 and a move to Cornwall before I realised I had to re-connect with my creative side. I enrolled in a furniture design and make course here in Cornwall and immediately felt this was the right road to travel down. By my second year I created SOAP designs, exhibited at the Cornwall design fair and sold my first piece" "Since then I was like a dog with a bone! I carried on designing more and more pieces and really became fascinated with digital manufacturing techniques. I was introduced to CNC technology at college and instantly knew this would be the path to take. It suited the designs I was creating and enabled me to batch produce pieces, which gave me a business model to work to." "By 2012 I had planned as much as I could and raised some capital to fund the start up of the business. In June that year i moved SOAP into our workshop, purchased the CNC router and got cracking with the business." "It's taken a while to become established and we are still in early territory after three years but our capabilities and knowledge in what we can do has rocketed, with plenty of big projects already under our belt our reputation both locally and nationally is gaining momentum" Sustainability"The environment and sustainability is really important to us so using Birch Plywood from sustainably managed forests in Europe was a perfect choice of material to focus on. It's ethical and aesthetic values have become very popular over recent years with customers and it's sheet form fit perfectly with the manufacturing processes we use."
"We do use a lot of other timbers here now but always make sure they are from sustainable sources, afterall, we all only have the one planet to live on, so lets be kind to it!" |
